Human
Subjects Review and Informed Consent
This research proposal was submitted to Ohio University's
Institutional Review Board for approval. The researchers
will obtain informed consent from all participants.
All
participating teachers will sign an informed consent form,
and they will comply with the policies for classroom-based
research set forth by the individual school districts in
which they are employed.
The
middle school students will be participating in activities
that are part of their normal classroom activities. Teachers
may need to obtain parental informed consent, depending
upon their school district's requirements for classroom-based
research. Requests for parental consent will include a letter
to parents describing the project, the curricular objectives
and learning activities, and the students' role as participants
in a nationwide collaborative study.
The
survey of school media specialists included a statement
indicating that neither the respondents nor their schools
will be identified in any way in reports of the data and
that participation is voluntary.
