The Curriculum Project
:
1. Collect Parental Consent Forms
2. Have students complete the survey
(Option: Students can create up to five additional questions. See extra questions.)
3. Tally the surveys and enter data into excel spreadsheets
4. Show findings in PowerPoint presentations --- the fun part!
5. Complete the content analysis exercise using their favorite magazines --- the relevant part!
6. Have students fill out the Student Feedback Forms

    Find out from your school principal if you need to have parents complete this form.

2. Student Media Survey

3. Spreadsheet Templates for Data Entry:

  • Data Entry Template (Microsoft Excel spreadsheet) - Students number the completed Media Surveys and enter the raw data for each record. This file includes: a sample tally sheet, tally sheet instructions, a data entry template, and instructions for the data entry template.
  • Totals Spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel spreadsheet) - Response totals for all surveys are entered here.

4. Magazine Coding Form and Codebook:

  • Magazine Codebook includes "Technologies" defined (Microsoft Word document) - Codebook for the content analysis of magazines.

5. Career Database Template (OPTIONAL EXERCISE):

  • Career/Jobs Database Template (Microsoft Excel spreadsheet) - Students enter information about careers they have researched into a class database.

6. Student Assessment Tools (OPTIONAL):

  • PowerPoint and Oral Presentation Rubric (Microsoft Word document) - For student self-assessment and teacher assessment of the content, design, and delivery of the PowerPoint presentation. Optional
  • Collaboration Rubric (Microsoft Word document) - For student self-assessment and teacher assessment of group collaboration. Optional
  • Assessment of Student Technology Skills (Microsoft Word document) - For student self-assessment and teacher assessment of student skills in using spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and the Web. Optional

7. Student Feedback

  • Student Feedback Form (Microsoft Word document) - For students to provide feedback regarding their experiences participating in the project.
