Since joining AP Radio in 1978, Jack has covered almost every major world-wide sporting event for AP. He has been to every Olympics since 1980 and is one of two primary anchors for all Olympic programming. 2008 marked Jack's 16th straight Olympics for the AP where he served as the anchor of the daily recap podcast. He also anchors the weekly AP College Basketball podcast and covers major sporting events.

 

Before joining AP, Jack was a sportscaster in several major cities around the country. He was the play-by-play voice of the ABA's Utah Stars and for several years called college basketball games. Jack graduated from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University and is originally from Cleveland, Ohio.

“How convergence lives in an entrepreneur world”

An OU alumni and a partner with Silicon Valley venture capital firm Alloy Ventures since 1996, Pidwell’s investment activities are concentrated in the computer software industry, primarily with companies that address enterprise information management, the Internet, or software-as-a-service (SaaS, cloud computing) related fields.


Prior to joining Alloy Ventures, Mr. Pidwell was CEO of Rasna Corp., a mechanical design automation software company he founded in 1986. The firm was acquired by Parametric Technology Corp. in 1995.

He was also president and general manager of the Mil-Spec computer division of Rolm Corp., having been with the company for fourteen years from the time of its start-up. IBM acquired Rolm in 1985 with more than 2,500 employees and $1.2 billion in annual revenue.


A lecturer with the Stanford University Graduate School of Business since 1999, Mr. Pidwell currently serves as a member of the board of directors of Informatica Corp. as well as three privately held corporations. He is also a trustee of the Ohio University Foundation and a member of the university’s Fritz J. and Dolores H. Russ College of Engineering and Technology board of visitors.

Mr. Matt Kelland

“Truly Social Media

How digital media is shaping our society”

Originally a magazine journalist and editor, Matt Kelland has been involved with online technology startups for over 20 years, focused mainly on consumer entertainment.  He was a founding member of UK Online, the first consumer Internet Service Provider in Britain, where he took on the role of Editor in Chief and created what was, at the time, the largest and most active Web site in the world.  He co-founded nGame Limited with Dave Lloyd and John Brimacombe, producing experimental games for interactive television and other emerging platforms and establishing itself as the world's leading producer of mobile phone games.


Matt and Dave then co-founded Short Fuze intending to design console games, but soon realized the potential for a simple home animation virtual movie studio called Moviestorm which they used to make the movie No License (seen by more than a million people online and shown at major film festivals worldwide, including Sundance).


Recently, Matt has set up Draco Felis – a company specializing in the creation of worldwide markets and new audience bases for creative people – and the digital publishing house Hukilau which aims to build a portfolio spanning various media, including multimedia and transmedia products.

Currently an Editor-In-Chief and Deputy Publisher at Postmedia newspapers in Canada, Rob McLaughlin is considered one of his country’s leading innovators in the field of factual interactive content.


Mr. McLaughlin’s work has been awarded dozens of international honours including the 2011 and 2010 Webby Awards for best Online Documentary programs.


Prior to joining Postmedia, Mr. McLaughlin was the Director of Digital Content and Strategy at the National Film Board of Canada and a former Director of Digital Programming at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

“Understanding a Global Network”


With over 800 million users connected by more than 100 billion edges, Facebook represents one of the largest social network data sets in the world. This talk uses research published by the Facebook Data Team to highlight some of the opportunities and challenges of using such large scale data, including technical challenges and problems with contextualizing aggregated data. The talk will focus on research of interest to social scientists, including work that combines behavioral analysis with other, more traditional social science methodologies.


Thomas M. Lento is a data scientist at Facebook, where he informs product decisions by analyzing user behavior. He has done research on user engagement with and content diffusion through the News Feed, and he has developed internal training material for employees who require access to Facebook's data infrastructure. Thomas holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry and asian studies and a PhD in sociology from Cornell University.

Mr. Zachary Lowe

“Connecting Consumers, Media, and Messages".

In his talk Mr. Lowe will discuss media fragmentation and how this has impacted communications, measurement and the market itself.


Mr. Lowe is currently a Media Director at Digitas Health. Zachary joined Digitas Health in December 2008, owning 5 years of digital and traditional media experience. He provides senior leadership to the Media Planning group at his company and is directly accountable for the development and implementation of successful media strategies to his clients. He also serves as a thought leader in the creation enterprise-level process solutions for clients, setting forth optimal business development guidelines for activation across multiple brands.


Prior to joining Digitas Health, Zachary spent several years with Razorfish (Seattle) and Razorfish Health (Philadelphia) where he worked in Consumer Packaged Goods and Healthcare verticals.  Previous client work includes Coors Brewing Company, Nike, Roche Laboratories, and Wyeth. Zachary began his media career at Viacom, where he served as a Sales Lead for national affiliates of CBS and UPN.


Zachary holds a bachelor’s degree in Advertising, with a minor in International Business, from Temple University, where he studied at both Main and Tokyo, Japan campuses.
