The Academic Calendar and System Committee is seeking your input regarding the academic calendar, quarters and semesters.
1. The Academic CalendarWe have been asked to consider possible changes to the academic calendar—that is, when we begin the academic year, when we end the academic year, and when we have breaks. As you all know, currently we begin in early September, have a long break in the winter, and end around mid-June. We want to know what you think is most important when it comes to the academic calendar. Please rank the following three options in order of importance, with 1 = most important; 2 = next in importance, and 3 = least important:
About Quarters:Please tell us your level of agreement or disagreement with the following 10 statements in regard to quarters.
About Semesters:Please tell us your level of agreement or disagreement with the following 10 statements in regard to semesters.
What’s Important:We would like to know how important you think the following considerations should be in deciding on a calendar system.
32. Of the factors listed above (questions 22-31), which is the single most important consideration in deciding on a calendar system?
33. In your deliberations about a possible move to semesters, how concerned are you about the work required to make the transition to semesters?
